Avoiding Plagiarism in Three Parts
12:00pm-12:30pm - The Basics
Writers will learn the basic definitions associated with documentation: plagiarism, annotation, citation, direct quote, summary, and paraphrase. They will also practice identifying inadvertent plagiarism in their own writing.
Writers will learn and practice some basic strategies for close reading , annotation, and tracking sources as they write.
Writers will learn and practice some basic strategies for using direct quotes and paraphrasing, and will also learn to identify common forms of inadvertent plagiarism. We will practice suing a five-part system to ensure that documentation of sources is complete.

In this workshop, writers will learn and practice the uses of signal phrases, paraphrase, summary, and documentation that conform to APA style. We will also cover the use of tables and images in APA.
