Aisha

Aisha

From Henderson, NV, Aisha has a BA in English from UNLV. She is now in the English MA program and teaches English Composition 101. She is mostly interested in British literature (17th and 18th centuries). Aisha has many hobbies, including hiking, stand-up comedy, and British street fashion. Aisha likes to work with all types of writing, at any stage in the writing process.

Ashley

From Las Vegas, NV, Ashley is a senior majoring in English. She likes non-realistic fiction, is obsessed with tokusatsu, and spends too much time on the Internet!

Becky

Becky


From Nevada, Becky has a degree in Journalism from UNR and an MFA in Creative Writing from UNLV. From 2012 to 2014, Becky served with the Peace Corps in the Ukraine, where she taught writing and American Literature at Chernivtsi National University, and helped start the university’s first English newspaper and coordinate the department’s new writing curriculum. Becky also has lived in Seoul, S.K., where she was an English teacher and curriculum designer. Besides working as a reporter in Nevada, Becky has taught ENG 101 and 102, Eng 101 E/F, and business writing at UNLV, and a comparative literature class on contemporary Ukrainian literature at Nevada State College.

Brett

Brett


Born in Chapman, KS, Brett studied English and Art History at the University of Kansas. He is now in the MFA (Poetry) program at UNLV and teaches English Composition 101 and 102. At the moment, he is very interested in travel literature and his hobbies include travel, contemporary art, live music, and drinking coffee!

 

Carol

Carol graduated from UNLV in December 2003 with a BS in Theatre, and in December 2009 with an MA in English. She is now working on another MA in Theatre Studies. Originally from Chicago, she has lived in Las Vegas since 1961. She has three grown children and lots of grandchildren. In addition to her love for the quest of knowledge, her hobbies are entertaining, gardening, and the Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV.


Clancy

From Milwaukee, WI, Clancy studied Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin. After teaching ESL classes in South Korea, he is now in the MFA (Fiction) program at UNLV. His hobbies include sports and movies.

Christina

Christina


Born in San Francisco, Christina studied Communications, with a minor in English, at UNLV. She then went to King's College, London, graduating with an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries. A part-time instructor, Christina teaches ENG 102, and is certified in Professional Writing. In her spare time, Christina likes to tutor children, teach yoga, and travel.

Denise

Denise

From Dayton, OH, Denise studied English at the University of Notre Dame. She has taught or tutored K to 12 students in French, Maths, Language Arts, and ESL reading. Denise is now in the MFA (Poetry) program at UNLV, where she has taught ENG 101, 102, and 205. Her hobbies include guitar, gardening, fractals, digital art, and watercolor.

Elee has a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. For many years, she taught classic drawing in charcoal, bas relief, and sculpture. She is now in the MFA Creative Writing program at UNLV. In her spare time, she is interested in women's studies, performance, dance, and cooking.
Elisa

Elisa

From Wilmington, DE, Elisa has a BA in English from the University of Delaware and an MA from Rutgers. She is now in the PhD in English program with a rhetoric and composition concentration. After becoming a certified literacy tutor in NJ, Elisa taught ENG 101, 102, 231, 401, and 407 at UNLV. Her areas of interest in English are anglophone literature, translation, pedagogy, and the novel of the 20th and 21st centuries. When she has the time, Elisa likes baking and hiking.

Ernie

Ernie

Ernie is from Bellevue, WA, and has a degree in Industrial Engineering from Cornell University. He is now in the MFA Creative Writing program at UNLV and also teaches ENG 101. Ernie is interested in current fiction, young adult literature, and dystopia; he likes to work with students on resumes, cover letters, fiction and memoir.

Gina


From Buffalo, NY, Gina has a PhD in English and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies. She teaches classes in English Composition, World Literature, and Women’s Studies. Before joining the UNLV Writing Center, Gina worked at the CSN Writing Center for 5 years and at the CSN Tutorial Services for 2 years. Gina is interested in gender, race, and class in American literature, US humor (especially women’s humor|), grammar, and composition pedagogy. Gina’s hobbies include dancing, reading, writing, solving puzzles, and questioning everything. She likes to work with all types of papers and enjoys reading all of them!

Jen

Jen


From Brunswick, ME, Jen majored in Studio Art at San Francisco State University and holds a Master's degree in Fine Art from UNLV. She is currently a graduate student in the MA in English program at UNLV and teaches English Composition and Art Appreciation classes. For the past five years she has written art criticism and reviews for various local publications. Jen speaks Spanish and French and is interested in Postmodern and Modern American literature, Grotesque Literature, Ekphrastic Poetry, Ancient Greek philosophy and anything to do with art. Jen’s hobbies include hiking, biking, scuba diving, and traveling, as well as cooking and gaming. She likes to work with all types of papers, particularly literary analyses and art.

Jesse

Jesse


From St. George, UT, Jesse studied English Literature at Dixie State University. He is now in the MA in English program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. His main area of interest in literature is American Literature between 1866 and the 1940s. He is “an avid reader, and a huge movie fan.” Jesse also likes to “dabble” in creative fiction and non-fiction.

Kayla

Kayla

From Atlanta, GA, Kayla attended Agnes Scott College and majored in Creative Writing. She is now in the MFA (Fiction) program at UNLV and teaches English Composition 101. Her “absolute favorite writer” is Virginia Woolf and Kayla “loves karaoke, hiking, dogs, coffee, and leopard print.”
Layla

Layla


From Las Vegas, Layla is majoring in English at UNLV. She is interested in creative writing and enjoys reading works of surrealism, existentialism, transcendentalism, and magic realism. In her spare time, Layla likes to write, read, and draw. She is a huge appreciator of the arts (all types). As a consultant at the Writing Center, Layla likes to work with all kinds of papers: analytical, argumentative, creative, expository, and compare and contrast.

Marianne

Marianne

From Lansing, MI, Marianne studied English at Michigan State University. She is now in the MFA (Poetry) program at UNLV. She likes Russian Literature, Modernism, and the New York School of Poetry, and looks forward to working with narrative and persuasive types of papers.

Matt

Matt


From Stillwater, MN, Matt graduated with a BA in English from Winona State University. He is now in the MFA (Fiction) program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. He is interested in Modernism, contemporary fiction, and the intricacies of syntax. Matt’s hobbies include hiking, camping, kayaking, trap shooting, weight training and playing chess. He likes working with all types of papers.

Raluca

From Brasov, Romania, Raluca is a senior in the UNLV Secondary Education (English Comprehensive) program. Once she gets her endorsement in ESL instruction, Raluca’s goal is to teach bilingual education. Before working at the UNLV Writing Center, Raluca taught ESL classes at Spring Valley High School, under the supervision of a coordinating teacher. In Spring 2014, she began her teaching practicum at Durango High School. Raluca appreciates the writings of Camus, Barthes, and Dostoevsky. Above all, the sublime character of Eastern philosophy is what gives substance to her educational path. Raluca enjoys working with all types of papers. 

Regina

Regina comes from New York and studied English at Hunter College. A part-time instructor at UNLV, she has been teaching ENG. 101 E/F, 101, 102 and ENG. 231 and 232.

Sara

Sara

From Las Vegas, Sara has a BA in Linguistics from UNLV. She then studied Applied Linguistics/TESOL at Georgia State University. Besides her work at the Writing Center, Sara teaches ESL 150, 164, 185 at the UNLV English Language Center. She is interested in the field of Historical Linguistics and her hobbies include photography and travel.  Sara also likes to attend concerts and shows.

Scott

Scott has a BA in English from UNLV and is pursuing his MFA degree in creative writing. He has tutored for several years and is now teaching English Composition. Besides the obvious interests in reading and writing, Scott also likes to play basketball and tennis, and drink gallons of coffee.

Timea

Timea

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Timea has a BA in English from UNLV, with a concentration in Creative Writing and a minor in Dance. She is now in the MA in English program. Timea has worked as a substitute teacher and as a debate instructor at a public speaking camp at Stanford University for elementary and middle school students. She is interested in Contemporary/Postmodern, Modern, Victorian, and Romantic literature, as well as Literary Theory and Criticism and Creative Writing. Timea’s hobbies include ballroom dancing and yoga. As a Writing Center consultant, she is excited to see what students in all majors are writing!
