Autumn


Autumn is from Tampa, FLA, and studied Philosophy and Film Studies at Florida Atlantic University. She taught English and World Literature to 10th and 12th graders in the International Baccalaureate Program. For four years, Autumn worked as an ESL instructor and tutor at a Japanese high school. She is now in the MFA Poetry program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. Autumn is interested in modernist poetry, verse drama, confessional poetry, eco-poetics, experimental performance, and post-modern world literature. Autumn’s hobbies include theater/drama, dance/dance theater, travel, yoga, walking, watching movies and cooking/eating….

Becky


Becky is from Las Vegas, has a BA in English from UNLV and will soon graduate with an MA in English. She has taught History of the Beatles at CSN and teaches piano. Becky is interested in poetry, graphic novels, feminist theory and criticism, and queer theory and criticism. Some of her favorite authors are Edgar Allan Poe, Allen Ginsberg, bell hooks, and Shel Silverstein. Becky likes to read, write, nap, listen to music, and play the guitar. She loves going to movies and plays, and pop culture in general. With her background in creative, technical, and academic writing, Becky is happy to work with all types of papers.

 

Carol

Carol graduated from UNLV in December 2003 with a BS in Theatre, and in December 2009 with an MA in English. She is now working on another MA in Theatre Studies. Originally from Chicago, she has lived in Las Vegas since 1961. She has three grown children and lots of grandchildren. In addition to her love for the quest of knowledge, her hobbies are entertaining, gardening, and the Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV.


Christina

Christina

Born in San Francisco, Christina studied Communications, with a minor in English, at UNLV. She then went to King's College, London, graduating with an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries. A part-time instructor, Christina teaches ENG 102, and is certified in Professional Writing. In her spare time, Christina likes to tutor children, teach yoga, and travel.

Crystal

Crystal

From Las Vegas, NV, Crystal is a junior at UNLV majoring in Radiography (Comprehensive Medical Imaging) with a minor in Creative Writing. Crystal tutored in the Mentor Program in high school and for the National Honor Society. Her main areas of interest in literature are Ancient Greek, Shakespeare, and contemporary literature, especially works related to magical realism. Crystal is a foodie with a great interest in trying out new and odd recipes. She enjoys reading comic books, and watching movies (particularly foreign films) and stand-up shows. At the Writing Center, Crystal likes to help students brainstorm and work on compare/contrast, analysis, and argument papers. She also enjoys working on creative and philosophical essays.

Ernie

Ernie

Ernie is from Bellevue, WA, and has a degree in Industrial Engineering from Cornell University. He is now in the MFA Creative Writing program at UNLV and also teaches ENG 101. Ernie is interested in current fiction, young adult literature, and dystopia; he likes to work with students on resumes, cover letters, fiction and memoir.

Ethan


Ethan is from Scituate, RI, and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a BA in English. He has taught GED and CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) classes. He is now in the MFA Poetry program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. Ethan likes contemporary poetry and post-modernism, and loves skiing.

Funke


Funke is from Lagos, Nigeria. She is in the MFA Fiction program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. She graduated from the University of Lagos with a double major in Chemistry and Education and has taught Chemistry and Integrated Science. Her area of interest in literature is contemporary World Literature.

Jesse

Jesse


From St. George, UT, Jesse studied English Literature at Dixie State University. He is now in the MA in English program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. His main area of interest in literature is American Literature between 1866 and the 1940s. He is “an avid reader, and a huge movie fan.” Jesse also likes to “dabble” in creative fiction and non-fiction.

Julian


From Las Vegas, Julian graduated from UNLV with a BA in English. He is now in the English MA program and teaches ENG 101. He likes to read science fiction, as well as modern and contemporary literature. Besides technology, Julian’s hobbies include hiking, camping, and painting.

Kayla

Kayla

From Atlanta, GA, Kayla attended Agnes Scott College and majored in Creative Writing. She is now in the MFA (Fiction) program at UNLV and teaches English Composition 101. Her “absolute favorite writer” is Virginia Woolf and Kayla “loves karaoke, hiking, dogs, coffee, and leopard print.”
Kevin Kevin

Kevin’s hometown is Las Piñas City in the Philippines. He has a BA in English from UNLV and is now in the MA program in English and teaches English Composition 101. His literary preferences are for medieval literature (Chaucer, chivalric romances, etc.) and Romantic poetry (Keats). One of his main hobbies is taking care of his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Apollo.
Layla

Layla

From Las Vegas, Layla is majoring in English at UNLV. She is interested in creative writing and enjoys reading works of surrealism, existentialism, transcendentalism, and magic realism. In her spare time, Layla likes to write, read, and draw. She is a huge appreciator of the arts (all types). As a consultant at the Writing Center, Layla likes to work with all kinds of papers: analytical, argumentative, creative, expository, and compare and contrast.

Matt

Matt

From Stillwater, MN, Matt graduated with a BA in English from Winona State University. He is now in the MFA (Fiction) program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. He is interested in Modernism, contemporary fiction, and in the intricacies of syntax. Matt’s hobbies include hiking, camping, kayaking, trap shooting, weight training and playing chess. He likes working with all types of papers.

Sara

Sara

From Las Vegas, Sara has a BA in Linguistics from UNLV. She then studied Applied Linguistics/TESOL in the Intensive English Program at Georgia State University. Besides her work at the Writing Center, Sara teaches ESL 150, 164, 185, and 114 at the UNLV English Language Center. She is interested in the field of Historical Linguistics and her hobbies include photography and travel.  Sara also likes to attend concerts and shows.

Scott

Scott has a BA in English from UNLV and is pursuing his MFA degree in creative writing. He has tutored for several years and is now teaching English Composition. Besides the obvious interests in reading and writing, Scott also likes to play basketball and tennis, and drink gallons of coffee.

Shin
From Edina, MN, Shin studied English and Philosophy at the University of Minnesota. He also worked as an in-class tutor at the Adult Education Center in Minneapolis. He is now in the MFA Poetry program at UNLV and teaches ENG 101. Shin likes to draw, read, write, and travel. He looks forward to working with students on their literature and argumentative papers.
