Allie

Allie


From Las Vegas, Allie is a senior with a double major, English and French. She is interested in art and Women’s Literature, both American and British, and loves to learn languages, travel, dance, and crochet. When asked what types of papers she likes to work with, Allie says that she has yet to find a type of paper she doesn’t like.

Andrew

From North Royalton, OH, Andrew studied at Ohio State University. He is now in the MFA Poetry program at UNLV.

Austin

Austin

From Wilmington, NC, Austin studied Physics at Duke University, where he taught undergraduate physics lab. He is now in the MFA (Poetry) program at UNLV and is interested in Modern/Postmodern poetry. One of his favorite hobbies is rock climbing.

Brian studied Creative Writing at Penn State Behrend. He is now in the MFA Creative Writing program at UNLV.

Carmen

Carmen

From East Wenatchee, WA, Carmen is a senior in the Department of English. She likes to read American Literature, particularly gothic novels and short stories. Two of her favorite authors are Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Carmen is also on the UNLV Swim Team and has been swimming competitively since she was 5 years old. She loves being outdoors and playing with her cat - who is more like a dog than a cat! Carmen enjoys creative writing and also has a lot of experience working with analytical essays.

 

Carol

Carol graduated from UNLV in December 2003 with a BS in Theatre, and in December 2009 with an MA in English. She is now working on another MA in Theatre Studies. Originally from Chicago, she has lived in Las Vegas since 1961. She has three grown children and lots of grandchildren. In addition to her love for the quest of knowledge, her hobbies are entertaining, gardening, and the Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV.

Christina

Born in San Francisco, Christina studied Communications, with a minor in English, at UNLV. She then went to King's College, London, graduating with an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries. A part-time instructor, Christina teaches ENG 102, and is certified in Professional Writing. In her spare time, Christina likes to tutor children, teach yoga, and travel.

Clancy

From Milwaukee, WI, Clancy studied Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin. After teaching ESL classes in S. Korea, he is now in the MFA (Fiction) program at UNLV. His hobbies include sports and movies.

Denise

Denise

From Dayton, OH, Denise studied English at the University of Notre Dame. She is now in the MFA (Poetry) program at UNLV. She has taught or tutored K to 12 students in French, Maths, Language Arts, and ESL reading. Her hobbies include guitar, gardening, fractals, digital art, and watercolor.

Huston

Huston

A Las Vegas native, Huston received his BA in English from UNLV. He graduated in May 2011 with an MA in English Literature. His reading interests include all types of American literature.

Joan

From Mason, MI, Joan studied at Michigan State and Wayne State Universities. Joan is in the MFA (Poetry) program at UNLV and has taught middle school and high school English classes, journalism, and tutored ESL students. Joan is interested in the Victorian novel and Modern American poetry. Her hobbies include yoga, travel, and hiking.

From Elk City, OK, Josh graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Anthropology (minor in History). His MA in English is from Humboldt State University where he also worked as a peer tutor. His literary interests include nature writing, ecocriticism, and Robinson Jeffers, as well as natural history, posthumanism, and semiotics. In his spare time, Josh enjoys reading, cycling, and listening to music. He likes to work with science and research papers, literary analyses, and history and critical essays.

 

Kat

From Las Vegas, Kat is a senior majoring in English. She likes Victorian and Modern American Literature (Tennyson, Yeats, and Hemingway), and Clive Barker. Kat enjoys writing, drawing, painting, and contributing to creative projects. She looks forward to working with fiction and creative writing papers.

Kirsten

From Boulder City, NV, Kirsten is also a senior majoring in English. She loves reading, particularly contemporary American Literature, and playing with her dog, Rocko.

Marianne

From Lansing, MI, Marianne studied English at Michigan State University. She is now in the MFA (Poetry) program at UNLV. She likes Russian Literature, Modernism, and the New York School of Poetry, and looks forward to working with narrative and persuasive types of papers.

From Atlanta, GA, Matt studied History at the University of West Georgia. After working as a newspaper editor, he is now in the MFA (Fiction) program at UNLV. He is interested in sports, film, music, and urban exploring.

From Las Vegas, Matt S. is a senior majoring in English with a minor in Secondary Education. He is very interested in the Modernist Period (Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc.) and wants to teach English after he graduates. He is a voracious reader and also really into all sports.

Melinda

From Jackson, OH, Melinda studied English at Ohio University. She is now in the MA in English program at UNLV. Her main area of interest in literature is the early 20th century.

Michelle

Michelle

From Kodaikanal, India, Michelle is a senior in the English Department. Before working as a consultant in the Writing Center, she tutored in high school. A musician (piano and, more recently, guitar) and a singer, Michelle also loves to paint, hike, read, and write. Her main literary interests are in British Literature (Shakespeare, Milton, and Victorian Poetry). She likes to work with essays of any kind, especially historical, mythological, and political pieces.

From North Scituate, RI, Mollie is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. She is now in the MFA Poetry program at UNLV. Her hobbies include reading, writing, and running.

Raluca

From Brasov, Romania, Raluca is a senior in the Secondary Education (English Comprehensive) program, with a minor in Spanish. Before working at the UNLV Writing Center, Raluca taught ESL classes at Spring Valley High School, under the supervision of a coordinating teacher. When she is not studying foreign languages, Raluca likes to read French Existentialists (Camus), Russian Realists (Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Gogol), German Romantics (Goethe), and Naturalists (Emile Zola). Raluca enjoys working with all types of papers.

Regina comes from New York and studied English at Hunter College. A part-time instructor at UNLV, she has been teaching ENG. 101 E/F, 101, 102 and ENG. 231 and 232.

Rob

A graduate of Universite Laval in Quebec City, Canada, with an MA in Linguistics, Rob has taught English as a Second Language for a number of years in French-speaking areas of Canada and in the Middle East. Rob is particularly interested in English verb systems. His hobbies include traveling, reading, and gardening.

From Las Vegas, Ryan graduated from UNLV with a BA in English. After a year spent teaching ESL classes in the Republic of Georgia, he is now in the MA in English program at UNLV. Ryan is interested in the American Literature of the South and loves to hike.

Stephanie

 

Stephanie

Born in Las Vegas, Stephanie is a senior majoring in English at UNLV. She likes to read books by a variety of authors, such as Calvino, Roth, Arenas, Atwood, Keats, Hawthorne, Oates, Dickens, and many, many others. Stephanie loves to write and is currently working on several novels, essays, and short stories. In her spare time, she is, in her own words, a "doting housewife."
